September 15, 2024 – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) awarded the River Parish Sequestration (RPS) Project in Louisiana with $32.2 million in funding to support site characterization activities at the carbon dioxide (CO2) storage hub located in the Louisiana Chemical Corridor between Baton Rouge and New Orleans. The grant award will help RPS advance and de-risk project development to enable commercialization and commercial operations, which could start as early as 2026. RPS’s business model is to provide Louisiana Chemical Corridor emitters with a large-scale, safe, and reliable CO2 transportation and storage service solution.

The DOE grant funding will be used to (i) conduct an aerial magnetic survey, (ii) conduct a 3D seismic survey (Iii) drill a second test well and collect additional rock core, (iv) engineer and design certain segments of the RPS pipeline system, and (v) implement a Community Benefits Plan.
