River Parish Sequestration Submits Applications for Seven Class VI Injection Wells and Receives Administrative Completeness Determinations for Each Application
September 20, 2023 – River Parish Sequestration, LLC, (RPS) submitted applications for seven Class VI injection wells to Region 6 of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Injection & Mining Division (IMD) of the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (LDNR) for the River Parish Sequestration project in Louisiana. The EPA has determined that all applications are considered administratively complete. The applications now move to the technical review phase of EPA’s permitting process. According to EPA’s Class VI Permit Tracker, final permit decisions are expected in mid-2025, which would enable commercial operations to commence as early as 2026.
The RPS project is strategically located to serve as the most cost-effective and least environmentally impactful CO2 storage hub for Louisiana Chemical Corridor emitters. With seven CO2 injection wells and a CO2 storage design capability of approximately 400 million metric tons in aggregate, the RPS project has the potential to provide a meaningful reduction in southeast Louisiana CO2 emissions.
